Don't forget to get your Dive Insurance before you travel!

As most of our Alberta dive sites are above sea level its important to remember all of the safety tips about altitude diving when we dive locally.

Always follow these important safety tips when diving in Alberta or when diving in higher altitudes.

1.
Acclimate to altitude before making your first dive. If you don't appropriately acclimate to your site you must consider the first dive as a repetitive dive.
2.
Use tables designed for use at altitude to determine theoretical depth.
3.
Round all calculations up and depths down.
4.
Reduce your ascent rate to 30 feet per minute.
5.
Do not dive above 10,00 feet above sea level.
6.
Check buoyancy for changes due to both fresh water and altitude (Wet suit vs Dry suits).
7.
The maximum depth for a dive at altitude is a theoretical depth of 130 feet.
8.
Move slowly and deliberately before and after an altitude dive in order to prevent hypoxia (Lack of O2 due to shortness of breath).
9.
Follow normal safety procedures at altitude.
10.
Make a safety stop at the appropriate theoretical depth for at least three to five minutes at the end of every dive.
11.
Wait at least 12 hours before ascending to a higher altitude after a dive.(Flying or Driving).
12.
Check the back of your PADI open water slate if you forget the basic rules of diving at altitude.
